Barter Exteriors was formally founded in 2020. We had a clear goal: provide honest, reliable and high-quality exterior work that homeowners and builders could truly depend on.
Between us, we bring over 35 years of diverse trade and life experience which includes; automotive and diesel mechanics, hydraulic specialists, towing, heavy equipment operation, Red Seal autobody repair and direct experience with roofing, framing and concrete. We believe this background translates strongly into the construction industry today, giving us a practical understanding of how materials, structures and finishes should perform over time. It shapes the care, precision and pride we put into every project and it influences how we approach challenges both on and off the job site.
Originally from a small town in New Brunswick, we made Alberta our home over 13 years ago. Mike started Barter Exteriors in search of a new challenge and the opportunity to create more autonomy in our careers while building something we could genuinely be proud of.
Our early work on insurance-related projects exposed us to the real consequences of failing materials and poor installation on homes and structures. Seeing the damage and long-term impact firsthand reinforced a simple belief; exterior work is about protecting homes, families and long-term investments. Since then, we’ve remained committed to raising the bar for exterior work in Calgary and surrounding areas.
We always strive to go above and beyond because we’ve dealt with and have seen too many projects completed below even the basic standards. We understand the value of every dollar and the effort it takes to earn it.
While we aren’t a large company, that’s by design — it allows us to stay closely involved with every project, maintain strong relationships with our clients and partners and ensures that the quality and attention to detail are handled the way we would expect ourselves.
Respect and fairness are at the heart of everything we do. We treat our partners, crews and clients with the same level of respect we wished for in our earlier trade careers, believing that strong relationships and honest collaboration lead to better results for everyone involved.
Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to work on a wide range of projects; from repairing oil field equipment, painting snow machines for the Arctic, helping our neighbours and obviously being trusted with luxury homes, multi-family developments, schools, hospitals and other public facilities. Each project is an opportunity to deliver dependable, high-quality work while continuing to build long-term relationships in the communities we serve.
We’re also proud to give back by supporting local and provincial animal rescue organizations across Alberta, along with other honest community charities — reflecting the values our company was built on and our commitment to making a positive impact beyond the job site.
